TBM LASH & BROW FAQ'S

LASH EXTENSIONS

Do eyelash extensions hurt?

  • Eyelash extensions should not hurt when applied correctly. They are applied with professional tools by isolating one lash, and adhering one extension to your natural lash for classic lashes or fans for volume lashes. Most Lash Artists put on under eye gel pads to prevent discomfort and aid in application. It is important to go to a trusted Lash Artist who was certified through a reputable course as this will ensure that they are applying the correct weight and length of lashes to your natural lash.

Do eyelash extensions look fake?

  • Eyelash extensions can be applied to look anyway that you desire. Most reputable lash artists will be able to give you your desired look or very similar. You can choose to have shorter natural lashes, large dramatic lashes, etc. Typically speaking, eyelash extensions don’t look fake unless that is the look that you are going for.

How long do eyelash extensions last?

  • Most eyelash extension adhesives have a bond time of anywhere from 4-8 weeks. However, they will only last as long as your natural lash does. Like all hair on the human body, your eyelashes grow in stages. It is normal to lose 1-4 natural lashes per day which is why a fill is recommended every 3-4 weeks. To read more on the growth stages of eyelashes check out: Eyelash Growth Cycles

How much do eyelash extensions cost?

  • The price of lash extensions is determined by the particular artist and area. This means that it will vary from state to state. We recommend calling around, and pricing out your lashes with reputable resources for the best experience.

Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

  • When applied correctly, eyelash extensions do not damage your natural lash. Certified lash artists will apply to only one natural lash, and will apply an extension that is the appropriate weight and length to ensure the integrity of your natural lash. Eyelash extensions can be damaging if your lash artist is not using proper techniques. Lashes that are too heavy, or clusters (pre-made fans) have a larger amount of adhesive and can cause your natural lash to break. When selecting your lash artist, ask which techniques that they use and where they were certified. This will aid in maintaining healthy natural lashes and enjoying the benefits of extensions.

Can I wear mascara with my eyelash extensions?

  • Yes you can! However, it is recommended to use an oil free mascara that is extension safe. This will make it so your mascara does not interfere with the bond of the eyelash extension adhesive or cause early separation. Can I wear eye make-up with my eyelash extensions?

  • You most definitely can wear make-up with your eyelash extensions. When selecting makeup, it is beneficial to go with extension safe make-up. Extension safe makeup is oil free, usually contains sealers to prolong extension life and helps to work adjacent with your extensions for an optimal look. If you use regular make-up, it is recommended to use a daily cleanser with make-up remover that is safe for your lashes to remove residue at the end of the day, such as this one here: Lash Extension Cleanser

HOW OFTEN CAN MY CLIENTS RESCHEDULE?

  • Lash lifts are permanent for the full natural lash shedding cycle which is typically 6-8 weeks. When the lift is fully grow out, a client is ready to have another lift.

LASH LIFTS

WHAT IS A LASH LIFT?

  • It's a lifting technique designed to give you longer-looking lashes without the need for lash extensions. It will look as if you used a really good eyelash curler, only this lift lasts for 6 to 8 weeks! To top off the treatment, We'll apply a black lash tint which really makes your lashes look more prominent. The procedure takes about 45 to 60 mins to complete. It really is an easy way to instantly brighten and open up the eye area!

HOW DO I NEED TO PREP FOR THE TREATMENT?

  • It is helpful to arrive with no makeup, however we will gladly remove it for you if needed. Also, you must stop usage of waterproof mascara at least 2 days prior to your Lift! If you wear contacts, they must be removed or we have saline and contact cases for you.

IS THIS LIKE LASH EXTENSIONS WHERE THEY WILL LOOK DRAMATICALLY THICKER?

  • Lash extensions and lash lifts are 2 totally different animals. We will not be adding any additional lashes to you. I will simply be curling your natural lashes. That said, for most, it can make your lashes appear fuller because they are so uplifted.

ARE SOME LASHES RESISTANT TO THE CURL?

We have found, on occasion, that it's very difficult and sometimes not possible to sustain the curl with lashes that have a strong cowlick or slanted growth pattern. Also, growth patterns due to plastic surgery in the eye area are often not able to be corrected. We say, give the treatment a shot once, and let's see how your lashes hold the curl.

HOW LONG DOES THE EFFECT LAST?

Depending on the length and quality of your natural lashes, the lift can last for 6 to 8 weeks.

I HAVE VERY, VERY SHORT LASHES. IS THIS PROCEDURE RIGHT FOR ME?

Most of the time, yes. Though it can be challenging if the lashes aren't long enough to bring up and back on to the shield. If when you come in, we see that your lashes are too short AND too fine or delicate, we will advise that you not get the Lift.

I HAVE GLAUCOMA, CAN I HAVE THIS PROCEDURE?

Yes. If ever in doubt, always consult with your physician.

I'VE RECENTLY HAD BLEPHAROPLASTY SURGERY, CAN I HAVE THIS PROCEDURE?

  • You need to wait at least 1 year from your surgery. It has been our experience with clients who have had this surgery that there is an increased sensitivity in the eye area for quite a while. You need to give yourself that time to heal first. After that, you can consult with your physician to be sure.

I'VE RECENTLY HAD LASIK, CAN I HAVE THIS PROCEDURE?

  • Yes, but you need to wait at least 6 months. As always, when in doubt, please consult with your physician.

WHO IS THIS PROCEDURE NOT GOOD FOR?

  • Chronic dry eye, conjunctivitis, damaged lashes or lashes with gaps (this treatment may make the gaps more noticeable), active eye infections of any kind, trichotillomania (habitual pulling out of lashes), recent chemo treatments (you will need to wait at least a year from your last treatment. When in doubt, always consult with your physician.)

I HAVE DOWNWARD POINTING LASHES, WILL THIS BE A GOOD TREATMENT FOR ME?

  • Heck yes! Anyone with these types of pesky lashes will love the lash lift! Post treatment, your lashes will all be evenly dispersed and lifted.

IS IT PAINFUL?

  • No. At first, when we are applying the shields to the eyelids, it may feel a bit strange. But, for the most part, it's very relaxing! You just kick back and relax :)

WILL THIS DAMAGE MY LASHES?

  • No, if you follow all the advice on Pre prep and Post care. The lifting solutions are only applied to the new growth area of the lashes, down towards the base and up a bit. Never to the ends of the lashes.

WHY DO I STOP WEARING WATERPROOF MASCARA 2 DAYS BEFORE?

  • Pretty much for all the reasons we state in the next question stated below. If you are a regular waterproof mascara wearer, then you are already walking in our door with dehydrated and weakened lashes, which will result in a poor Lift and possible further damage.

WHY CAN'T I WEAR WATERPROOF MASCARA?

  • Harsh chemicals are used in waterproof formulas in order to make them, well.... waterproof. This chemical composition is extremely drying to your lashes. Not to mention all the effort and extra tugging and pulling on the lashes to remove the mascara. To be honest, most people are not great at thoroughly removing the masacara. If that’s the case, now you’re running around with this super drying film of chemicals on your lashes 24 hours a day. This results in weakened lashes that are prone to breakage, and over shedding.

CAN I BOOK THIS ON THE SAME DAY AS A FACIAL?

  • Absolutely!

CAN I STILL WEAR MASCARA?

  • Of course! You'll just achieve a more dramatic effect when mascara is applied to your curled lashes.

IS THERE ANY MAINTENANCE IN BETWEEN LIFTS?

  • You don't have to do anything special with your lashes in between lifts other than giving them a good brush out daily and stay away from waterproof mascara.

WHAT ARE THE POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS?

  • Pretty simple: Don't get your lashes wet or apply anything at all to them for 24 hours. Steer clear of waterproof mascara the entire life of your Lift. Brush out the lashes daily.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PERFORM THE SERVICE?

  • With training and practice the service can be completed in 45 mins for a lift and a tint. Beginners may need an hour.

CAN I CONTINUE TO USE MY LASH GROWTH SERUM?

  • Serums can cause complications for lash lifts for a number of reasons. Serums can extend the growth phase of the lash, this can have some differing results on your lifts. Please do not use serum 48 hours before and after their service.

TINTING

HOW LONG DOES THE COLOR LAST?

  • Approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Chlorine and daily use and removal of waterproof mascara can shorten the life of the color.

HOW SHOULD I PREP FOR MY TINTING APPOINTMENT?

  • Prep mainly only applies to the lashes. So for Lash Tinting it is helpful to come with eye makeup removed.

DOES IS STING WHEN YOU'RE APPLYING THE COLOR?

  • It's possible to feel some discomfort if your eyes water causing the color to seep or during the removal phase. Any discomfort you feel might remind you of getting soap in your eye. We quickly flush the eye when this happens. But usually, it's a very quick and comfortable service.

MY EYEBROWS HAVE BEEN MICROBLADED. IS IT OKAY FOR ME TO TINT THEM?

Absolutely! As long as you have completed all your microblading appointments (the initial appointment and the touch up appointment) and are completely past your few weeks of healing, it's totally fine. We have clients who still tint even though they have permanent make up. Sometimes, if you have really blonde hairs or grey, it can start to look a bit strange with the microblading or permanent make up. So we will usually try to match up the color of your dye to the color used for your microblading.

WHAT IF I WEAR CONTACTS?

You will need to remove your contacts prior to your service.

IS THERE SPECIAL POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS?

Yes, you will want to go easy with your eyebrows when cleansing to extend the life of the dye. Of course, if you scrub, peel etc at that area, the color is going to disappear much faster. Also exercise caution when applying any type of skin care products containing exfoliators (topical acne medications, retinol, lightening products, alpha hydroxy acids, etc) Keep all of these away from the brows as they will strip them of their color.

HENNA

WHAT IS HENNA?

  • Henna comes from the leaves of a plant known as Lawsonia inermis. The form I work with is a powder and it is mixed with a purified water.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EYEBROW HENNA & EYEBROW TINT?

  • With the Tint, We use a traditional dye and peroxide mixture and it is designed to only tint the hairs, not the skin. Henna will not only dye the hairs, but will leave a stain ( for approx up to 2 weeks) on the skin behind the brow, giving the brow a fuller and filled in look. In terms of longevity, Tint lasts up to 4 weeks on the hair, Henna can last 6-7 weeks on the hair.

How do I know which one I might want to book?

  • If you are someone who does not normally wear any brow cosmetics (or very little) and prefers a more subtle look to your brows, then start with the Eyebrow Tint.
  • If you are accustomed to a very defined and filled in eyebrow and like a more rich color, go with the Eyebrow Henna.

CAN HENNA BE USED ON LASHES?

  • No, Henna is not safe or suitable for lashes. But fret not, I have awesome tint for that!

IS THERE ANY SPECIAL POST CARE INSTRUCTIONS?

  • Yes, you will want to go easy with your eyebrows when cleansing to extend the life of the stain on the skin in particular. Of course, if you scrub, peel etc at that area, the stain behind the brow is going to disappear much faster. Also exercise caution when applying any type of skin care products containing exfoliators (topical acne medications, retinol, lightening products, alpha hydroxy acids, etc) Keep all of these away from the brows as they will strip them of their color.

IF I WANT HENNA, DOES IT MATTER WHETHER I BOOK AN EYEBROW TINT OR EYEBROW HENNA?

  • Nope! We map the brows in both services to give you the perfect shape! However, it does help to know when booking.
